The VMware Workstation is a program that is known as a hypervisor, or Virtual Machine Monitor, which is used to create and run virtual machines. Using the VMware Workstation software uses can set up virtual machines — known as guest machines — which can then be used in conjunction with the original machine which is also known as the host machine. VMware Workstation is a shareware program (also known as a trialware program, this denotes a program that can be downloaded for free but comes with limitations on its usage) that works with the Microsoft Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
VMware Workstation was first released in 1999 and there have been numerous editions, updates and fixes released since then, including increased support, increased capabilities and a few security fixes and improvements.
